Highland Love Song
Published in Paperback by Harper Mass Market Paperbacks (February, 1900)
Average review score:

WonderfulThis was my first Constance O'Banyon novel, and I absolutely loved it! Arriane and Warrick are perfect for each other, and they go through so many obstacles that test their relationship. I loved it that she was so brave and innocent, trying to bring light to the dark Warrick. Unforgettable story! I recommend Song of the Nightengale and Desert Song, but this one was the best of the three.

Highland Scots of North Carolina, 1732-1776
Published in Textbook Binding by Univ of North Carolina Pr (January, 1900)

Background for my family lineThis book has excellent information on where my line came from in the Highlands. The description of the economy, the living conditions, the government and clan disharmony, as well as the religion question, all provide a good picture of where our Scots came from and the conditions of their lives. My McRae family came to Carolina in 1774, so this timeline used in this book covered the years preceding, as well as a few following their immigration. I was very interested in the motives for migration. This provided many more than I had previously read about. Because the years led directly into our revolution, it is especially relevant to read this information on the Scots question whether to serve as loyalist or as revolutionary. This proved, as well as disproved several theories which are in print. I appreciate having this book in my reference library. It has more specific descriptive information about the Scots' living conditions both in Scotland and in North Carolina than any other source I have consulted.

Highland Settler; A Portrait of the Scottish Gael in Nova Scotia
Published in Paperback by Formac (June, 1953)
Average review score:

Fantastic look into the life of the Scots Gaeltach in AmericHighland Settler, with its look into the difficulty of life of the Scots, driven from their land by the English, is a memorable look into frontier life (to the recent past) of an honorable people. The struggles against trees; the pride and perseverance; the discrimination. It's described in this well written documentary, sadly out of print. It also gives me an appreciation of my forefathers in this new land. Dr. P.J. Deason

Highland Swordsmanship: Techniques of the Scottish Sword Masters
Published in Paperback by Chivalry Bookshelf (15 November, 2001)
Average review score:

A good book!Mark Rector has put together an interesting volume that serves both as a historical reference to old Scottish swordplay, and a guide to those individuals interested in the recreation of old styles of sword combat. Happily, it is also easy to read, and nicely illustrated. As the author of "THE ART AND SCIENCE OF FENCING," "THE INNER GAME OF FENCING," and "THE ENCYCLOPEDIA OF THE SWORD," and the editor/publisher of "FENCERS QUARTERLY MAGAZINE," I recommend this book.

Highland T'Ing
Published in Paperback by X-Press (April, 1999)

Fresh stylish concept for a thriller excuted with flairThis modern crime thriller had real pace from the first to last page. By combining very different locations (Jamaca, South London and Scotland in grip of winter) and colourful local characters Robertson managed to create a number of very memorable images in a tightly written story.
The novel raises some thought provoking social issues about our multi-racial society. It does so very much in the context of the plot so that this is not a distraction but a logical sub-text.
The novel left me keen to know more about how the main characters develop in future.

Highland warrior : Alasdair MacColla and the civil wars
Published in Unknown Binding by Saltire Society ()
Average review score:

Alasdair Mac CollaStevenson looks at the history of the Gaelic fringe of Ireland and Scotland in the seventeenth century with a refreshingly unromantic eye. Gone are the quaint stories of Highland laddies, and villanous Cromwellians. Stevenson's "Highland Warrior" is thick with intrigue. Alasdair Mac Colla emerges from these pages looking super-human, but certainly not heroic in the conventional sense. However, in the fallen world of the seventeenth century, Mac Colla and his sidekick Manus Ruadh O'Cahan may be the closest one might ever get to heroic figures. They are, at least, extremely interesting individuals. This is a magnificent book, and it is a must read for any student of Irish or Scottish history.

An exciting adventureThis is one of Sharon Gillenwater's best. The story is funny, sweet and exciting from the very beginning. It is one that you will not want to put down. Her characters are ones of high moral value yet human. Beautifully written. I hightly recommend.
